What is QTP Testing ?: What is QTP ?

Being a Business Development Lead. I have assigned few technology including QTP where my job will be to set up new business and spring up the existing one. Despite the fact that Mindfire Solutions has successfully carried out many QTP projects for different clients in different domain including supply chain management, business process development and all, I had still in a bit dark corner of this technology.

To break the ignorance barrier I did some research while I take this business in my account like, what exactly the QTP is ?, How it serves different industries ? And in the other notes, keep asking many other questions like, is it worth for the QA people to dirty their hand with QTP testing ? Is it judicious for clients to spend so much of money to get a license of QTP ? Is it better than manual testing ? What the heck this QTP is? etc and etc.

I have accumulate some information and try to put together here.

QTP or Quick Test Professional is very versatile product of HP. This software provides functional and regression test automation for software applications and its environments. HP QuickTest Professional can be used for enterprise quality assurance. It is backing up almost all application and platform. The latest innovation of HP QTP is its add-ins which is supports smartphones and tablets that to in mobile cloud environment. The biggest advantage here for the mobile cloud with QTP add-ins is, it supports VB scripting as similar way it is supporting in any other scenario and platforms.

HP Quick Test Professional provides two types of environments to run the automation testing as “Record and play” and “Descriptive Programming” using VB script. It uses the Visual Basic Scripting Edition (VBScript) scripting language to specify a test procedure, and to manipulate the objects and controls of the application under test.

As it is very powerful testing tool almost all enterprise including SMEs and Large scale industries are prefer to use HP QTP to test their applications and the products. Below are my understanding why people preferred to go with HP QTP to test their products and applications in spite of high cost license.

Within very fewer time periods one can run many test cases in QTP.
In case of repeated testing automated test is best and HP QTP is one of the best tool.
It can be performed simultaneously on different operating systems including mobile platforms.
It is easy for volume testing.
Data Driven Testing is easier with more options in HP QTP
